Glauci, Regis Ephyrae, fil. cuius formâ capta Sthenoboea, Proeti, Argivorum Regis uxor, de stupro eum interpellavit, cumque se praeter opinionem repulsam videret, aegre id ferens, innocentem hospitem apud vitum detulit, tamquam sibi vim inferre voluisset. Cuius delationi fidem adhibens Proetus, hospitii iuris memor, domi illum suae interficere non sustinuit, sed in Lyciam ad Iobatem socerum suum cum codicillis misit: qui cum et ipse tam strenui adolescentis sanguine domum suam polluere nollet, eum adversus Solymos, quibuscum bellum gerebat, modico cum praesidio misit, sperans futurum, ut iuvenis cupidissimus, a gente ferocissima, facile interimeretur. Verum cum et Solymos facile vicitor Bellerophontes, et aliis plerisque periculis obiectus semper victor rediisser, postremo ad interimendam chimaeram missus est; quem eriam laborem, nactus, Neptuni beneficiô, Pegasum equum, sumina cum laude superavit. Quapropter Iobates, iuvenis virtutem admiratus, alteram illi ex filiabus, cum regni parte, uxorem dedit, ex qua Isandrum, Hippolochum, et Laodamiam suscepit, uti l. 6. Il. refert Homer. Quod cum audivisser Sthenoboea, sibi mortem conscivit. Bellerophon autem felici rerum successu elatus, cum in caelum volare cum Pegaso conaretur, immissô a Iove oestrô, equô excussus est. Hic primum Hipponomus dictus est, Postea Bellerophontes a Bellero quodam Corinthiorum Principe, quem adhuc adolescentulus de medio sustulit.
